What this route helps clarify
This route is useful when the first question is simply, "what RRSP room might be available?" It starts with salary or wages, net business income, and net rental income. It also lets you add unused RRSP deduction room shown in previous-year CRA records or the latest federal notice of assessment.
OpenBook can prepare an educational RRSP room estimate. It does not determine the official CRA amount, decide whether to contribute, choose a deduction amount, compare RRSP and TFSA outcomes, or prepare a tax return.
What the route will keep separate
- Income that may create room Start with salary or wages, net business income, and net rental income. Other income types can be checked in the calculator if they apply.
- Room already shown by CRA Add unused RRSP deduction room from previous-year CRA records or the latest federal notice of assessment if you have that number handy.
- Calculator details Use the RRSP Room Calculator next if pension adjustments, contributions already made, support payments, CPP/QPP disability payments, or other income categories need to be included.
