Canadian Personal Income Tax Calculator
Estimate 2026 federal and provincial or territorial personal income tax for one Canadian jurisdiction. Start with taxable income, then add the personal, family, pension and dividend information where applicable. If you enter income tax already paid, the calculator also estimates the remaining balance or overpayment.
How this estimate works
What this calculator estimates
This calculator estimates federal and provincial or territorial personal income tax for the selected jurisdiction. It reflects the tax brackets and the personal credits and jurisdiction-specific adjustments included in the calculator, based on the information entered.
Calculation method
Tax brackets are applied to taxable income, followed by the supported non-refundable credits and tax adjustments. Some rules use net income rather than taxable income. If net income from the federal return is left blank, the calculator assumes it equals taxable income.
Dividend fields use the actual dividend received. Its grossed-up taxable amount must already be included in taxable income and the applicable net income; it is not added again.
Understanding the result
Without tax-payment information, the result is estimated total income tax. With tax already paid, the calculator estimates a balance owing or overpayment. For Québec, federal and Québec balances or overpayments are shown separately; the calculator does not offset one against the other.
Average tax rate is estimated total income tax divided by taxable income. The marginal-rate calculations each add $100 of one income type independently to the same starting information.
Important limitations
This is an educational estimate, not a completed income tax return or personalized tax advice. It includes only the credits and adjustments identified in the calculator. Other credits, deductions, provincial or territorial tax reductions, transfers, elections, benefit interactions, minimum-tax rules and filing-specific circumstances may affect the result. Selecting a spouse or eligible-dependant claim assumes its eligibility conditions are otherwise met.
