How this estimate works

What the calculator estimates

This calculator estimates Québec provincial taxable income for 2026 from selected income, deductions and adjustments. It follows the Québec return’s broad sequence from total income to net income and then to taxable income. It does not calculate federal taxable income or Québec income tax.

Calculation method

The calculator first totals the entered income amounts. Net rental and business losses, and negative amounts in the permitted correction field, remain negative in this calculation.

The optional dividend assistant applies the applicable gross-up to actual eligible and other-than-eligible Canadian dividends and enters their combined taxable amount. Directly entered taxable dividends are not grossed up again.

The optional QPP/QPIP assistant takes separately reported RL-1 B.A and B.B employee QPP contributions and the entered employment and business income. It estimates a combined deduction under its stated 2026 full-year QPP-only model, enters it once in the existing deduction field and updates it when linked income changes. A direct entry remains separately determined. The assistant does not complete Schedules U or R or reconcile CPP.

It calculates the deduction for workers from the eligible work income entered. That income base is not added to total income. The worker deduction and the other net-income deductions are subtracted from total income, and the investment-expense adjustment is then added to calculate net income.

If that net-income calculation is non-negative, the calculator adds the entered post-net-income amounts and subtracts the taxable-income deductions. If the final taxable-income calculation is negative, taxable income is shown as zero. If net income itself is negative after the investment-expense adjustment, the calculator does not proceed to a taxable-income estimate.

Understanding the result

The result estimates Québec provincial taxable income, not income tax payable. Québec provincial taxable income and federal taxable income are calculated under different income, deduction and adjustment rules, so their amounts may differ.
