Key rules
Contribution-room notes
- The annual TFSA dollar limit is added to available contribution room at the beginning of the calendar year.
- Unused TFSA contribution room carries forward.
- Withdrawals generally restore contribution room in the following calendar year.
Canadian residents who are at least 18 years old and have a valid SIN can generally accumulate TFSA contribution room.
Withdrawals generally create new TFSA contribution room on January 1 of the following year, not immediately in the year of withdrawal.
